Editorial standards
How we research, write, edit and update our analysis.
Accuracy first
We aim to state only what can be supported. Factual claims (dates, results, transfers, statistics) should be checked against reliable primary or reputable secondary sources before publication. Where an argument is interpretive, we present it as analysis rather than fact.
Sourcing and data
- We credit data providers, publications and footage sources where we rely on them.
- We credit every photograph and illustration, with its licence where one applies.
- We explain what a metric measures and its limitations when we use it.
- We do not invent quotes, and we do not present paraphrase as quotation.
Independence and funding
Portal Football is an independently operated football publication, independently funded by its operator. It may earn revenue from advertising or commercial partnerships. Editorial decisions are made by the editorial team, and coverage is not for sale.
Bylines
Every article is published under the name of the writer responsible for it, or under the Portal Football Editorial Desk when a piece is the work of the team.
Use of AI and review
AI-assisted tools help prepare, process and automatically publish content. Editorial staff review content, and corrections can be requested at [email protected].
Corrections and updates
When we materially change an article after publication, the page shows an "Updated" date. Significant corrections are noted in the article. To report an error, email [email protected]; see our corrections policy.
