Barcelona's front three has no European peer this season

Raphinha, Lamine Yamal and Fermin Lopez have combined for 24 goals, well clear of the next-best attacking trio in Europe's top five leagues, according to Planet Football.

Raphinha, Lamine Yamal and Fermin Lopez have scored 24 goals between them for Barcelona this season, the highest combined total of any three-player scoring group in the Premier League, La Liga, Serie A, Bundesliga or Ligue 1, Planet Football reports.

The next closest trio, Manchester City's Erling Haaland, Rayan Cherki and Antoine Semenyo, have managed 14. That gap of ten goals after only a handful of matchweeks is the headline figure, but the way the list is built matters as much as the numbers themselves.

Planet Football's ranking simply adds up each club's three leading scorers, regardless of whether they ever share the pitch together or operate in the same positional line. It is a measure of goal output concentrated at the top of a squad, not a measure of a functioning front three as a tactical unit.

That distinction explains why some of the names on the list look unusual. Alejandro Grimaldo features for Atletico Madrid despite playing as a left-back, sitting alongside Alex Baena and Jonathan David. Manu Kone appears for Roma as a central midfielder rather than as part of an orthodox attacking line, his goals added to those of Donyell Malen and Matias Soule.

Why Raphinha's new role matters more than the number

Barcelona's position at the top is explained, in part, by a change of role rather than a change of personnel. Raphinha has been used as a centre-forward following the departure of Robert Lewandowski, and Planet Football notes he has adapted to the position convincingly rather than leaving a gap up front.

That shift has consequences beyond his own scoring tally. A winger repurposed as the central striker changes the geometry of Barcelona's attack, pulling opposition centre-backs into areas they are less used to defending while Yamal continues to operate in his usual advanced role out wide.

Yamal's own form has been described as outrageous by Planet Football, and Fermin Lopez has added four goals despite not being deployed as a recognised attacker. The report suggests Lopez may not remain part of this particular grouping once Anthony Gordon becomes a more regular feature of Barcelona's forward line.

City's spread of goals looks less settled than Barcelona's

City's 14 goals from Haaland, Cherki and Semenyo tell a different story. Haaland has scored eight in seven Premier League appearances, continuing his usual output, while Cherki has already matched the four goals he managed in the whole of last season.

Planet Football frames this as City simply beating whatever is put in front of them without a clearly defined project behind the goals, a contrast with Barcelona's more identifiable tactical reasoning. Bayern Munich's trio of Michael Olise, Luis Diaz and Harry Kane sit third with 13, having scored five of them in a single 6-1 win over RB Leipzig, with Diaz claiming a hat-trick in that game.

Smaller trios show goals are not confined to the biggest clubs

The list is not dominated entirely by the usual names. Frosinone's front line of Antonio Raimondo, Giorgi Kvernadze and Giacomo Calo have scored 12 in Serie A, built around wins at Fiorentina and against Cesc Fabregas' Como, plus four goals in a single game against Sassuolo.

Freiburg's trio of Yuito Suzuki, Igor Matanovic and Maximilian Eggestein have outscored Bayern's reserves among Bundesliga sides outside the leading pack, while Eintracht Frankfurt's attack, led by Younes Ebnoutalib, has kept producing goals despite the club sitting in mid-table.

Chelsea's trio of Pedro, Morgan Rogers and Pedro Neto have reached 12 as well, with Rogers scoring four goals in his first season after a big-money move from Aston Villa, Planet Football notes. Real Madrid's Kylian Mbappe, Jude Bellingham and Carlos Espi are level with Chelsea, built around Mbappe's seven league goals under Jose Mourinho.

Inter Milan's Lautaro Martinez, Marcus Thuram and Hakan Calhanoglu reappear in the top ten from last season with ten goals, while Rayo Vallecano's Sergio Camello has kept pace with some of La Liga's bigger names despite playing for a mid-table side.

What the ranking cannot show is durability. Trios built around a single central striker, like Raphinha's Barcelona or Haaland's City, depend heavily on one player's continued fitness and form. Groupings like Roma's, which lean on a midfielder's goals, are more fragile still, since a central midfielder's scoring output tends to fluctuate more than a recognised forward's across a season.
